Methodologies for Patellid Limpets’ Aquaculture: From Broodstock Management to Juveniles

The production of cultured limpets is a recent research field contributing to aquaculture diversification, focusing on low trophic species while reducing the carbon footprint. Limpets are gastropods that colonize rocky substrates and mostly present tidal subtidal shores. This animal group in high commercial demand endangered several regions. has been traditionally challenging. most successful reproduction method gonadal dissection, as artificial spawning induction shown limited success date. Moreover, methods for larval culture, settlement, juvenile growth have poorly developed remain largely unknown. In years, advances this led optimization enhance production, settlement competent larvae, management post-larvae juveniles. manuscript reviews these advances, obtained within framework AQUAINVERT project, broodstock management, gametes release, larviculture, grow-out post-larvae, providing an update actual state art limpets’ aquaculture.
